Client: Mumbai Port Authority (MBPA)
Project Type: Supply, Installation, Testing & Commissioning (SITC)
Location: Multiple strategic locations across Mumbai Port premises
Overview
Vijay Engineering and Machinery Private Limited (VEMPL) successfully executed a large-scale Supply, Installation, Testing, and Commissioning (SITC) project involving 36 submersible pump sets with automation for Mumbai Port Authority (MBPA).
The project was aimed at upgrading and standardizing the port’s pumping infrastructure across multiple locations to ensure reliable drainage, safe operations, and automated pump control under varying site conditions. VEMPL delivered an end-to-end electromechanical solution, covering dismantling of existing systems, civil and piping modifications, electrical integration, automation, and final commissioning — all executed in line with MBPA’s operational and safety requirements.
Project Challenges
- Multiple installation locations with varying site constraints
- Replacement of aging surface-mounted pumping systems
- Requirement for automated operation to prevent dry running
- Integration of new pumps with existing pipelines and electrical systems
- Strict timelines and operational continuity at critical port facilities

VEMPL Scope of Work
VEMPL undertook a comprehensive scope covering complete system integration:
- Supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of 36 submersible pumps with automation
- Dismantling of existing pumps, motors, foundations, frames, pipe fittings, and electrical accessories
- Demolition of concrete foundations and safe disposal of debris
- Modification and adaptation of delivery pipelines using GI C-Class pipes and fittings as per site conditions
- Installation of gate valves, non-return valves (NRVs), pressure gauges, and associated cabling
- Supply and commissioning of starter panels, level sensors, and automated control systems
- Implementation of automatic pump operation based on tank water levels to prevent dry running
- Preparation of a detailed work schedule chart post contract award for transparent project execution
