200 kWp Rooftop Solar Installation at Vikram Bhavan, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC)

Project Overview

We successfully executed the Supply, Installation, Testing & Commissioning (SITC) of a 200 kWp rooftop solar power plant at Vikram Bhavan, Anushakti Nagar, within the BARC campus.

Installed over a multi-level car parking structure, this project required a meticulous approach to structural design, wind load resistance, safety integration, and long term operational reliability. The execution reflects a balance of engineering precision, safety first implementation, and performance driven design for critical institutional infrastructure.

Structural Engineering Excellence
Aluminium Anodized Long-Rail Mounting Structure

The plant is supported by a:

  • Aluminium anodized long rail solar module mounting structure
  • Corrosion resistant and lightweight design
  • Optimized for durability in coastal and high-humidity environments

Aluminium anodizing enhances:

  • Surface hardness
  • Corrosion resistance
  • Long-term structural integrity
  • Reduced maintenance requirements

This ensures stable module support without imposing excessive load on the parking structure.

Optimized Ventilation & Thermal Performance

To enhance module efficiency and lifespan:

  • 120 mm clearance maintained between roof surface and modules

This design enables:

  • Improved airflow beneath panels
  • Reduced heat accumulation
  • Better thermal dissipation
  • Sustained performance during peak temperature conditions

The result is improved energy yield and enhanced long term system reliability.

Wind Load & Structural Safety Compliance

Given the exposed rooftop environment, the system was engineered to:

  • Withstand wind speeds up to 180 km/hr
  • Maintain structural rigidity under extreme weather conditions

Wind load calculations and anchoring mechanisms were carefully engineered to ensure:

  • Zero structural compromise
  • Secure module fixation
  • Compliance with safety standards

Waterproofing & Infrastructure Protection

To protect the integrity of the parking structure:

  • All weather proof silicone gel applied for waterproofing of L-angles

This ensures:

  • Prevention of water seepage
  • Protection against structural corrosion
  • Long term durability of the mounting interface

Special care was taken to maintain rooftop waterproofing without affecting civil infrastructure.

Integrated Safety & Maintenance Planning

Beyond installation, the project was designed with long-term O&M considerations in mind.

70-Meter Safety Lifeline System

  • 70 meters of safety lifeline installed
  • Enables secure cleaning and maintenance operations

This ensures:

  • Worker safety during routine panel cleaning
  • Compliance with height safety protocols
  • Reduced operational risk

360° Accessible Walkways

  • Full 360-degree accessible walkways
  • Ease of inspection, servicing, and future upgrades

This thoughtful planning allows:

  • Efficient troubleshooting
  • Faster maintenance cycles
  • Minimal downtime

Energy Performance & Sustainability Impact

  • Installed Capacity: 200 kWp
  • Estimated Daily Generation: ~800 units per day

The plant significantly contributes to:

  • Reduced grid dependency
  • Lower operational electricity costs
  • Decreased carbon footprint
  • Sustainable energy integration within critical research infrastructure
