Naval dockyard, Mumbai
Background/Objective
The project undertaken by VEMPL for the Naval dockyard, Mumbai was a large scale government project for the ministry of defence. The Naval Dockyard Mumbai is one of the strategic defence installations, for all of the western coats. It is also home to the Coast guard and the western naval command headquarters. At the dockyard, several warships including submarines are repaired and overhauled at various dry docks.
During periods of hot work and anchoring, the fire pumps are required to be operating at full efficiency. However, the pumps at the dockyard were failing to do so and were affecting the repair work at the dock.
VEMPL’s Role as a solution provider
After understanding the problems, VEMPL offered a solution where the firefighting pumpset would also do uble up to drain out the water and help during a fire emergency. A Kirloskar make Vertical turbine pump in super duplex construction along with 180 HP vertical Hollow Shaft Motor could be installed for the project with accessories like Valves and switch g ears critical for the operation.
Approach:
The Naval Dockyard entrusted the work of revamping the main firefighting pumpset. A Kirloskar make Vertical turbine pump in super duplex construction along with 180 HP vertical Hollow Shaft Motor would be inst alled for the project with accessories like Valves and switch gears was installed. VEMPL revamped, supplies, installed and commissioned the pumps.
Advantages of the proposed system
Apart from saving up on construction costs, this investment is also space efficient – the dual purpose of the fire fighting pumpset is an innovative and elegant solution to space constraints.
Outcomes:
Since commissioning, the pump and the entire system has been working smoothly and efficiently.
VEMPL has also supplied, installed and commissioned Vertical Turbine Pump ses for sea water application (Fire Pumps) at Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust, U ran. The scope of work SITC of main fire pumps( electrically operated as well as diesel engine driven through Right Angle Gearhead) as well as jockey pumps.
