The Challenge
Kellogg’s required immediate dewatering at its project site to prevent water accumulation from disrupting ongoing activities.
Initially, a motor-driven submersible pump was considered. However, the site conditions posed significant operational challenges.
Key Challenges
- No electrical power supply near the dewatering location.
- Approximately 250 metres of power cable would have been required to connect the pump to the nearest power source.
- Long cable runs would require multiple cable joints, increasing installation complexity.
- Temporary electrical connections in a wet environment posed potential electrical shock hazards.
- Cable laying, protection, and retrieval would require additional manpower and increase project timelines.
- Immediate dewatering was essential, while the delivery lead time for a new diesel-driven pump was longer than the project’s schedule permitted.
