Emergency Dewatering Solution for Kellogg’s Using Kirloskar Diesel-Driven AutoPrime Pump

Project Overview

When a leading food manufacturing facility operated by Kellogg’s encountered an urgent dewatering requirement, conventional electric pumping was not a practical option. The dewatering location lacked a nearby power source, making rapid deployment critical to avoid project delays.

Leveraging its engineering expertise and readily available rental fleet, Vijay Engineering & Machinery Pvt. Ltd. (VEMPL) provided an immediate Kirloskar Diesel-Driven AutoPrime Dewatering Pump from its Authorised Pumpset OEM (APOEM) Unit, enabling uninterrupted site operations while ensuring maximum safety and operational efficiency.

The Challenge

Kellogg’s required immediate dewatering at its project site to prevent water accumulation from disrupting ongoing activities.

Initially, a motor-driven submersible pump was considered. However, the site conditions posed significant operational challenges.

Key Challenges

  • No electrical power supply near the dewatering location.
  • Approximately 250 metres of power cable would have been required to connect the pump to the nearest power source.
  • Long cable runs would require multiple cable joints, increasing installation complexity.
  • Temporary electrical connections in a wet environment posed potential electrical shock hazards.
  • Cable laying, protection, and retrieval would require additional manpower and increase project timelines.
  • Immediate dewatering was essential, while the delivery lead time for a new diesel-driven pump was longer than the project’s schedule permitted.

The customer required a solution that was safe, reliable, and immediately available.

VEMPL’s Engineering Solution

Understanding the urgency of the requirement, VEMPL adopted a customer-first, solution-oriented approach.

Instead of asking the customer to wait for new equipment, VEMPL immediately deployed its own Kirloskar Diesel-Driven AutoPrime Dewatering Pump from its APOEM rental fleet, allowing dewatering operations to commence without delay.

The diesel-driven AutoPrime pump completely eliminated the dependency on external electrical power while providing superior mobility across the project site.

Why Kirloskar Diesel-Driven AutoPrime Pump?

The Kirloskar AutoPrime pump was ideally suited for the application because it offered:

  • Independent diesel engine operation
  • No requirement for external electrical power
  • Self-priming capability for rapid deployment
  • Easy relocation across multiple dewatering points
  • Reliable performance in demanding construction environments
  • Reduced installation time
  • Enhanced operator safety

Training & Technical Support

Equipment deployment was complemented by comprehensive technical assistance from VEMPL.

Our engineering team conducted two on-site operator training sessions, covering:

  • Pump operation and start-up procedures
  • AutoPrime functionality
  • Preventive maintenance
  • Daily inspection checklist
  • Safe operating practices
  • Basic troubleshooting

This ensured the customer’s operating personnel could confidently manage the equipment throughout the project.
